Westfield PTO

Westfield PTO is a parent-teacher organization supporting the staff and students at Westfield Elementary in Robins, Iowa.

Westfield PTO 2011-2012 Strategic Plan
Goal 1: Equip teachers and parents with what they need to best grow our kids.
Objective 1: Supply school with the materials necessary for optimal learning
· Continue to fund each classroom and student support educators with $150 for educational materials; continue to support Specials teachers with $50.
· Invest $3,000 for education or building support in school funding requests. Staff can receive items above the classroom funds with approval at any PTO meeting.
· Maintain funding for field trips at $5 per student.
Objective 2: Improve parent involvement in classroom learning and child development
· Create, promote and grow a Parent Library with opportunities to check out materials during monthly PTO meetings.
· Provide parents with resources as the child’s first and most important teacher via weekly website updates and email.
· Encourage dialogue about PTO, Westfield and district happenings through Facebook, weekly updates to Westfield PTO website, and email communication.

Goal 2: Support students’ academic and personal development.
Objective 1: Identify, communicate and exceed district, building and grade level goals
· Devote time during meetings to discuss goals and progress toward them.
· Empower parents through explanation of goals and how to tailor them to their children
Objective 2: Promote developmental success beyond education
· Connect students with academic, athletic and activities outside of the school day.
· Continue funding part of the anti-bullying program Olweus.
· Maintain funding roller skating and theatrical performances at school.
Objective 3: Use proven methods to improve academic achievement
· Host a Literacy Night in September to kick off school-wide reading effort.
· Provide tutoring opportunities for students who could use support
· Provide further academic opportunities via Westfield PTO communication

Goal 3: Strengthen organization structure, diversify funding and improve health.
Objective 1: Establish and maintain best practices for administrative guidance
· Achieve 501c3 status
· Detail committee responsibilities and recruit quality volunteers
· Update policies and procedures
Objective 2: Research, submit and secure at least one grant.
Objective 3: Support health and sustainability
· Incorporate Healthy Kids calculator into PTO events
· Reduce waste and encourage recycling
